Synopsis
With the increasing realization of the political nature of their work, anthropologists over the last four decades have shifted their focus to political anthropology. The lecture will explore key trends in political anthropology, the status of studies on politics and violence in India, and the challenges and future of the discipline. Dr. Suman Nath will draw from his research to present the unique contributions of Indian ethnographic studies to the global understanding of power, politics, and violence.

About the Speaker
Dr. Suman Nath earned his PhD in Anthropology under the guidance of faculties from IIM Calcutta and the University of Calcutta. He has extensively researched the politics of resource allocation, communalism, and political violence, publishing books, essays, and articles in renowned journals and platforms. He has also been invited to speak at prestigious European universities such as Göttingen, Oslo, and Amsterdam.
